Children's Quarter
Monmouthshire Food Festival is delighted that Monmouthshire Youth Service will once again be hosting the Children’s Corner.
The Monmouthshire Youth Service has developed a programme for children and young people of all ages. New for this event, there will be two sections, each one focusing on different ages. The Children’s Zone will focus on young people of all ages who will be making fruit kebabs and fruit smoothies with staff support. It will be lots of fun and encourage healthy food choices. There will be a small charge for this activity. All money raised will go to help youth projects in the local area.
The area designed for young people aged eleven and over will be “The Zone on Tour”, named after Caldicot’s drop in centre. In this area staff will be discussing the advantages of replacing high calorie snack foods with healthy alternatives to take with them on days out. Young people will then be able to create a snack pack to take away. These snack packs will include fresh fruit and bottled water.
The aim of the Children’s Quarter is to promote healthy alternatives to high fat and sugar snack food and drink as well as creating activities where young people can have fun and discover some healthier options for between meal snacks.
Guide Dogs Cymru will also be hosting activities in the Children’s Quarter. Visitors to the Children’s Zone can put on a blindfold and try their hand at buttering bread, making jam sandwiches and preparing juice drinks. Just close your eyes for a moment and imagine how much fun it will be.
Gwent Beekeepers will also be joining in the fun with “A Bee Experience” to show how important bees are to our food supply. There will be lots of activities with bees as their focus.
